Description

Position Summary:

The role of the Category Manager is a highly cross-functional position working with Sales, Marketing, Finance, Brokers, and directly calling on customers. As a key member of the sales team, this role contributes to driving company sales and profits and to gaining an advantage over competitors by driving strategic insights and value-added tools/programs to drive increased performance for our brands in retail. The position will utilize category, consumer and shopper insights data to create a clear direction for Carma Laboratories categories that aligns customer and Carma Laboratories strategies. This position advises on all category needs driving sales volume, distribution, and advancing customer relations.

Reports to: Director of Domestic Sales

Functional Responsibilities:
  • Expert on utilizing and leveraging syndicated databases, to include customer-specific data warehouse information and loyalty card analysis (e.g., Circana, Nielsen, Panel, Customer Specific, etc.) to create direction for the category within assigned accounts
  • Provide post promotion and display effectiveness analysis to help sales team determine vision for future optimal promotion strategy
  • Develop category strategy and recommendations for customers while aligning to the strategies and tactics of Carma Laboratories
  • Provide insights to drive depth of distribution and quality of placement for core items
  • Address complex business problems leveraging multiple data sources and tools
  • Provide ongoing trend analysis (business performance and drivers) to seize opportunities as well as take corrective action
  • Create and deliver customer specific presentations with relevant consumer insights, competitive insight and recommendations in preparation for Customer appointments, quarterly business reviews, Broker meetings and category line reviews
  • Provide input into customer planning cycle based on knowledge of category trends, competitive issues, etc.
  • Interact and collaborate with senior sales, marketing, and category management peers
  • Develop new tools and templates to simplify the analysis process as well as the output to the sales team
  • Ad-Hoc Business reporting necessary to answer time sensitive questions
  • Develop recommendations with customer team(s) and brand team to provide insights and analysis to help drive consistent sales recommendations on space management (e.g., assortment), pricing and promotion

Required Experience, Desired Skills & Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience, with at least 3 years of category management/shopper insights in Consumer-Packaged Goods
  • Experience of developing and maintaining effective strategic partnerships with key stakeholders both internally to an organization and external suppliers
  • Demonstrated success in leading category management customer engagements with major Food, or mass retailers
  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional teams to drive business results
  • Proven analytical skills & ability to successfully integrate different streams of information into winning propositions
  • Understand tools and techniques to merchandise and market at retail
  • Capable of building strong networks and working cross functional relationships
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple projects against deadlines
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Experience with retailer specific data (i.e. Retail Link) is a plus
  • Excellent planning and project management skills
  • Strong ability to leverage creative thinking and presentation skills

Educational Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and work experience
