Job Classification: Firefighter
The Ocoee Fire Department is hiring for the position of Firefighter. Firefighter/Paramedics will be preferred for these job openings. Preference will be given to Paramedics, however, EMTs may be considered with the requirement to attain their paramedic certification and be a stand-alone paramedic within (36) months of hire date.
1. National Testing Network FireTEAM & CPAT. Applicants must have valid FireTEAM and CPAT through National Testing Network (NTN) within 12 months of the opening of the job posting.
2. Once NTN FireTEAM and CPAT test scores are received by the Ocoee Fire Department, applicants will be contacted by INVITATION ONLY to complete the City of Ocoee online application.
Salary Information: $48,656.66 (Paramedic Incentive is $10,000 additional)

Department Overview: The City of Ocoee Fire / Rescue operate from 4 fire stations strategically located throughout the city to provide maximum response in minimum time. The City has a rapidly growing fire department with very good opportunities for advancement. The City of Ocoee Fire / Rescue also provide protection to the Town of Windermere.
Area Information: Ocoee is a demographically diverse community covering a 15.5 square mile area in West Orange County, Florida. Ocoee is in the metropolitan Orlando area and is the 3rd largest city in Orange County

Job Requirements
Age: 18
High School Grad/GED: High School or GED
Valid FLORIDA State Driver's License: Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license without any restrictions that may affect ability to perform the essential functions of work outlined herein.
Academy Certification: Must possess a State of Florida certification as a Firefighter Minimum Standards
Necessary Certifications:
· Must possess a State of Florida certification as a Paramedic and Emergency Vehicle Operator Certification (EVOC)
· Candidates who are already State of Florida certified Paramedics are preferred.
· All applicants must also provide an American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers and Advanced Cardiac Life Support cards
Preferred Certifications/Degree

Hiring Process:
(1) Complete CPAT & FIRETEAM: Candidates must register with the National Testing Network (NTN) and complete a written examination (FireTEAM) and candidate physical agility test (CPAT); results of those assessments must be received by the city prior to the interview process. The Ocoee Fire Department encourages those interested in the position to complete the NTN testing in advance since testing availability is very congested once the posting is officially opened.

(3) Interview, Background, Medical Evaluation, & Voice Analysis: Selected candidates will be required to complete additional human resources requirements prior to receiving a conditional offer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Substantial knowledge of scientific and technical principles and methods regarding fire suppression, prevention, and safety.
· Substantial knowledge of modern firefighting principles, practices, and procedures.
· Substantial knowledge and skill in the operation and maintenance of various types of apparatus and equipment used in firefighting activities.
· Knowledge of basic life support as applied to emergency treatments.
· Knowledge of City geography including location of fire hydrants
· Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency conditions.
· Ability to operate heavy fire apparatus safely and efficiently
· Ability to perform prolonged and arduous work under adverse conditions.
· Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with employees, other Fire agencies, and the general public.
Essential Functions: The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. It is not necessarily descriptive of any one position in the class. · Respond to fire alarms with a fire company; prepares to fight fire by connecting hose to hydrants or pumps and joining hose sections and nozzles to hose.
· Enters burning building and operates nozzle to direct stream of water on fires.
· Operates hand extinguishers and similar equipment to extinguish fires; raises, lowers, and climbs ladders.
· Ventilates burning buildings to carry off smoke and gases.
· Rescues individuals and provides appropriate emergency medical assistance.
· Performs salvage operations such as placing salvage covers, sweeping water, and removing debris.
· Operates pumps to maintain an adequate water volume and pressure.
· Attends instruction sessions concerning firefighting methods, equipment operations, emergency medical related subjects, and street hydrant locations.
· Performs custodial duties at the station; cleans and maintains Fire Station facilities and equipment; inspects fire equipment for necessary repairs.
· Maintains vehicle and equipment daily.
· Maintains and submits routine records and logs.
· Participates in public education and community outreach programs.
· Performs related duties as directed when such duties are a logical and appropriate assignment to the position.
Physical Requirements: Tasks involve the intermittent performance of extremely physical demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running, climbing, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of extremely heavy objects (150+ pounds), such as in the event of rescuing or transporting a victim/patient in the performance of rescue operations. When performing fire services and/or rescue operations, tasks are performed with potential for intermittent exposure to occupational health hazards including, but not limited to, fire, extreme temperatures, wetness, humidity, inclement weather, loud noises, toxic/chemical agents, electrical currents, pathogens, fumes, gases, odors, erratic or unpredictable human behavior, weapons, and explosives. Tasks include working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, carts, and materials handling, where extremely heightened awareness to surrounding and environment is essential in the preservation of life and property, as does special equipment including, but not limited to, various types of containment suits, self-contained breathing apparatus equipment (SCBA) and safety gear.
Environmental Requirements: Some tasks are performed in outdoor environments. Due to the nature and non-specific location of the work environment, tasks include potential for lengthy exposure to disagreeable elements, e.g. heat, humidity, inclement weather. Some tasks are performed in highly critical and hazardous conditions, where fire and/or other life threatening situations occur. Exercising established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Some tasks include working in and around moving vehicles and associated vehicle/equipment areas, where heighted awareness to surrounding and observance of established safety precautions is essential in avoidance of injury or accidents. Other work requires diplomatic, skillful, and immediate response to potentially violent situations and must submit to essential safety precautions to avoid personal injury or injury to the general public.
