Major Accountabilities:
The Strings Teacher can expect to work two days a week in Grades 4-8 when school is in session (35 weeks), except days when there are school closings due to holidays, snow days, half days, teacher professional development days, and class field trips, among others.
Education:
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree as well as training in teaching violin, viola and cello in the classroom setting. The candidate’s teaching repertoire should include classical and traditional folk or world music styles as well as notation for 5th grade and older. Ideal candidates will be familiar with or open to learning child development as seen through the Waldorf education pedagogy.
Experience:
One year minimum working with children ages 12-14 in a group setting
Required Competencies:
• Ability to teach a love for music
• Plans for and directs each group lesson
• Selects appropriate lesson books and sheet music for each lesson
• Prepares appropriate homework exercises
• Selects suitable instruments for students and provides fingering instruction
• Prepares students for their pieces performed at festivals, assemblies, open houses, and community events
• Works with students from fourth through eighth grade to bring forth their music ability reflecting a spectrum of skill level
• Offers opportunities for each student to participate in experiences that offer different melodies and harmonies in an arrangement
• Ability to plan ahead and organize events within time frames and communicate these plans with colleagues
• Composure – responds to information and situations in a self-controlled manner
• Humor – uses appropriate humor to maintain a positive environment
• Adaptability – flexible style, possesses the ability to change or be changed to fit circumstances, adjusts with ease
• Collaboration - seeks and enlists active participation of others

Hourly Wage: Range of $25.00- $45.00, depending on experience
