Job Description CAMP STUDENT INSTRUCTOR: You'll inspire creativity, build confidence and help students gain coding experience and computational thinking skills for the jobs of tomorrow. You'll be a mentor, motivator, ambassador, facilitator, collaborator. As a student instructor, you will work closely with a lead instructor, curriculum coordinator and your fellow instructors/mentors to deliver creative learning opportunities, facilitate student engagement
and measure successful outcomes. You will have the opportunity to engage with elementary, middle and high school students, supporting them in learning computing and computational thinking in a fun, dynamic environment.
KEY SKILLS:
•Teaching experience: Experience with and interest in working with kids in education,
childhood development or other educational environments.
•Technical skills: Experience with block-based and text-based programming languages
•Interests: Positive, inclusive interest in working with neurodiverse students, developing
differentiated learning opportunities and teaching
•Commitment: Strong desire to teach others how to code. Commitment to building a safe,
student-focused community.
•Responsibility: On time, prepared, and cheerful. Professional demeanor. Demonstrated
ethics, integrity and accountability. Strong problem-solving skills and flexibility.
•Leadership: Willing to take ownership of projects and see them through to completion.
•Transportation: Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the city.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
•Education majors, Computer Science/Computer Engineering majors or programmers
with a deep interest in working with students. Two full semesters of core curricular
credits preferred.
•First aid/CPR certified or willing to be certified.
•Experience working with diverse racial and socio-economic backgrounds.
•Excellent oral and written communication skills.
•Strong organizational and time management skills.
HOURS:
•35 - 40 hours a week (June -August)
•Youth Code Jam camps typically run during the summer months, June through August, from
9am-4pm, Monday - Friday, with possible extended care hours. Camps are held in various locations
in the San Antonio area or virtually on Zoom. Employees are expected to arrive at least 30 minutes
before the start of each day of camp, and stay on-site at the end of each day until all students are
picked up by authorized guardians, and the room and equipment are secured.
All employees must pass a Criminal Background Check and Child Protection Training.
