The City of Georgetown is now accepting applications for an experienced Firefighter EMT. This position responds to emergency situations within the City to perform fire suppression, hazardous materials incident response and rescue duties as well as administers CPR and first aid and removes victims from danger.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Responds to emergency situations within the City to perform fire suppression, hazardous materials incident response and rescue duties.

• Operates fire apparatus at the scene; lays fire hose; directs fire stream; raises and climbs ladders; ventilates burning buildings; selects position and proper discharge pressures and monitors pumping activities.

• Provides crowd and traffic control at emergency scenes; assists with salvage, overhaul, cleanup and evacuation activities as necessary.

• Responds to a variety of emergency calls requiring medical treatment at the EMT/First Responder level including administering CPR, removing victims from danger, administering first aid, etc. per protocol.

• Performs a Self-Assessment of the department as part of a team; performs a Community Risk analysis; creates Standards of Cover and Strategic Plan documents for the purpose of fulfilling requirements for the Commission of Fire Accreditation International accreditation process. Assists as needed by accreditation team (at start of task).

• Documents all fire and other emergency incidents and responses.

• Assists with fire pre- planning.

• Participates in fire prevention and fire safety education activities; conducts tours of the fire station.

• Performs basic fire prevention inspections in code enforcement; installs smoke detectors as requested.
• Inspects, tests and cleans fire hydrants.

• Cleans and maintains fire apparatus, equipment, stations and grounds; tests and maintains fire hoses; maintains emergency response equipment in a constant state of readiness.

• Performs special details as assigned.

• Receives and responds to public inquiries, complaints and requests for assistance regarding areas of responsibility.

• Attends training, seminars and meetings to remain knowledgeable of modern fire suppression and prevention methods; maintains required certifications.

• Performs general clerical work as required, including but not limited to preparing reports and records, copying and filing documents, entering and retrieving computer data, attending meetings, etc.

• Remains available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, for emergency response.

• Receives and/or reviews various records and reports including training sessions and reviews, professional articles and reviews, daily briefings from officers, standard operating procedures, incident information, patient information, morning engineer pass along report, morning assignment information, demographics, pre-plans, smoke detector/house information, email documentation from officers and internet websites that deal with fire.

• Prepares and/or generates a variety of documents including email documentation, specific verbal communications, incident information, patient information, leave requests, broken equipment forms, overtime forms, gear inspection forms, email, training information, accreditation information accumulation, engineers report, MVA report, general leave, patient care report and daily truck check sheets.

• Refers to daily truck check sheets, professional articles and reviews, standard operating procedures, training information, orders from supervisors, dispatch information, pass apparatus inspection sheets, Chemtrec, DOT guidebook, truck log book, essentials book, MSDS sheets, employee handbook, ERG, mapping and email documentation from officers.

• Utilizes a variety of computer software to include but not limited to the following programs: Word, Action Learning, Outlook Express, Internet Explorer, Aloha, Marplot, Excel, Fire House and Learn It.

• Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the citizens of Georgetown, command staff, other fire departments, EMS personnel, business owners, City staff and other employees.

• Operates a variety of machinery and/or equipment such as a fire apparatus, self-contained breathing apparatus, medical equipment, personal protective equipment, tools such as TNT, halligan bar, axes, etc., extrication tools, aerial apparatus, hazmat apparatus, rescue apparatus, fire boat, thermal cameras and gas detector monitors.

• Utilizes a variety of tools and/or sets of tools to include hoses, fans, nozzles, other fire suppression equipment, thermal cameras, CO monitors, EMT equipment and extrication tools.

  • NFPA FF I & FF II
  • SC and National Registry EMT
  • NFPA 1582 Physical
  • Background Check
